Stylish Figuratives: Josepha van den Anker

Figurative painter Josepha van den Anker was born in the Netherlands,  immigrated to Canada at age six and now divides her time between Ontario and Ireland.

Van den Anker’s works have been picked up rapidly by corporations, including the government of Canada, the country’s major banks and life insurance companies, and financial institutions overseas. (Click on images to go to her website and locate full, larger views of the paintings.)

Figurative painting  “is an approach to art that clearly depicts recognizable objects seen in the real world, in contrast to abstract art, which is non-objective–as in it does not depict specific objects–and non-representational.  –See this briefing on figurative art for more information.

My work is an ardent and sincere attempt to join in dialogue with issues concerning our human condition, Van den Anker says

Josepha van den Anker’s works are on exhibit at St.Thomas-Elgin Public Art Centre
in St.Thomas, Ont. until March 3, 2012.
