The Art of Chairs: Crafted by Ex-Cons

This is a novel design development.  These chairs by Italian fashion house Marni are constructed by ex-prisoners in Colombia in woven PVC threads on metal frames, part of a social rehabilitation project.

They’re part of this year’s Salone del Mobile, the famed Milan design fair.

Proceeds from the 100 chairs ($260-590) go to a Milan-based support program for the children of imprisoned mothers.  There’s a slideshow on Blouin ArtInfo, here.
