The Motion Photo Prize

motion1One of the world’s largest art organizations has just launched a new, running competition that should thrill even the most uninitiated GIF maker. Saatchi Art and Google+ are collaborating on a project that encourages motion photography, the hugely popular creative trend that until now required special tools and know-how. Now, Google+ technology allows users to automatically animate a series of still photographs and turn them into motion photography. The Motion Photography Prize landing page has easy-to-follow instructions for creating a GIF, linked to dozens of entries posted since the prize was announced earlier today. (Above, by David Heger)

Rudimentary, jerky – and sometimes dizzying – though they are at the moment, GIFs clearly have potential for the everyday maker, who no longer has to be a technical wizard to produce compelling motion photography.
