I’m not normally into celebrity and don’t pay more than passing attention to what’s going on in that world. But when I saw these rare photos (up for auction by WestLicht), I had to explore.
These are exceptional photographs, many held until now in private collections, seen by only the photographer and a handful of others. (Click on any image to go to the catalog description of the photograph and artist)
Celebrity aside, it’s the photographer’s craft that makes these images so captivating, and so intimate. There are some big names in this auction – Richard Avedon, Henri Cartier-Bresson and others.

A brilliant collection. Just one word: the john Lennon/Yoko ono photograph is more likely 1969. During their famous trip to Amsterdam. By 1979, Yoko had cut her hair shorter. And the 80’s unfortunately were just around the corner at the Dakota.

That’s a great point, and true. The auction catalog gives that date. But I bet you’re right.

I thought as much. Didn’t click on the image. (Not sure the catalog writer knows who Yoko is…)
Take care
