Jane Kidd: Tapestries

Through the act of weaving tapestries, Jane Kidd engages in a sensual process and uses a physical language to establish links with the viewer. The renowned textile artist is a recipient of a 2016 Governor General’s Award for the Visual Arts.

According to Jennifer Salahub, a historian at the Alberta College of Art and Design, “Kidd emphatically demonstrates that issues central to much visual art practice today – including gender, identity, post-colonialism, economic justice and ethics – are relevant to contemporary tapestry, and by extension to all fine craft.” See the Governor General’s Awards website, here

And I guess part of the reason she got the award is she’s been such a leader in the art of textiles.
