Why 150 Artists?

Canadian Art Junkie is running a new series this year on artists you should know.(To see the running list of 150 Artists as they are posted, go here.)

The 150th Anniversary of Canada’s founding has triggered hundreds of celebrations, and some fascinating upcoming exhibitions.

Canadian Art Junkie already features many of the country’s revered artists, such as Dorothy McCarthy, who had a profound impact on the Canadian view of the Arctic, or The Group of Seven, highlighted frequently on these pages through the years.

There’s a resource page on some of the country’s most famous artists, here.  And there have been visual features, videos and special material on a raft of others.

But 2017 – the 150th anniversary of Confederation – is the perfect time to highlight more painters, sculptors, photographers, artisans and designers. That’s why you’ll be seeing 150 upcoming posts on 150 significant Canadian artists.

As always, feel free to comment and suggest.
