Alberta-based Scott Cumberland’s signature motif is ribbons, the decorative pattern he uses to sculpt the surface of his abstracts.
Cumberland starts by pouring acrylic paint onto the canvas. Then, using a variety of handmade squeegees and tools, he “draws through the paint” creating undulating jujube-coloured waves and sensual curves – review in the Edmonton Journal.
Scott Cumberland (MFA University of Alberta, BFA University of Saskatchewan) is a Painting Technician/Demonstrator with the University of Alberta. He has previously taught Painting, Drawing and Art Fundamentals at the U of A in both the Department of Art and Design and Augustana Fine Arts Department.
