The awards keep rolling in for Meditations, the exquisite wildlife series by Canadian artist Alice Zilberberg (a talent originally featured here on The Art junkie in 2012, just after she was recognized internationally as a top emerging photographer).

Go Giraffe

The latest prize is her 1st place in the wildlife category of the prestigious International Photography Awards (IPA) 2019. (A complete list of her many awards, here.) Zilberberg says she creates theses animal montages as an expression of self-therapy, finding calm and an opportunity for meditation in the presence of wild things.

Reflecting Ram

The Toronto-based artist developed her own distinctive technique for creating her digital paintings, where photography is only the beginning of the final artwork. The works are comprised of many photographs, and carry a variety of elements such as colour, toning, manipulation, and painting.

For Now Flamingo

The IPA prize is the 4th award this year for the Meditations series. The works also received 2nd place in the Fine Art Photography awards, Bronze in the Moscow Photo Awards, and the images led to her selection as one of Canada’s Top 3 Photographers in the One Eyeland Awards.

Calm Caribou

Born in Tallinn, Estonia, and raised in Israel, Zilberberg is a graduate of Ryerson University’s Photography program. Her work has been exhibited in galleries across North America, Europe, and Asia.
