Hier frames oil paintings of pro-wrestlers within glazed ceramic dishes featuring whole or partially eaten fish, condiments, and silverware. The erotic carnality of the painted imagery, put in conversation with the fleshiness of the adjacent fish, emphasizes the violent aspects of each – Nino Mier Gallery

Hier often focuses on photorealistic still lifesย and surrounds each canvas with custom frames composed of intricate sculptures. Above: Tuesday’s Lunch, 2024, Oil on linen with glazed stoneware sculpture, 42 x 27 x 28 inches, via Artsy.

This is so interesting.
Right? I had never seen this combination before. Also, I love the idea and execution of those plates. Brilliant.
Agree, and they have such a FRESH look to them. Really beautiful. So nice of you to share all of this art with us.
very nice
I love the detail. Beautiful.
Yes, I was also struck by the detail, especially in the execution of the plates. Thanks for that observation.
very unique ! –
Unique is correct – I don’t remember seeing something that combines oil and sculpture this specifically. Which of course is what catches our eye! Thank you.
