wintergatan

This Wintergatan Marble Machine built and composed by Swedish musician Martin Molin is a wonder, such fun. It reminds me of an animated, Rube Goldberg style ball drop music machine (see below) that has mesmerized me for years.

“It’s a hand-cranked music box loaded with instruments including a circuit of 2,000 cascading steel marbles. As the devices cycles it activates a vibraphone, bass, kick drum, cymbal and other instruments that play a score programmed into a 32 bar loop comprised of LEGO technic parts.” – from the Colossal website.

.

And here’s the animated music machine by Animusic that reminds me so much of (if you know Toronto) the ball drop sculpture that has entranced kids for years at the Ontario Science Centre.

The science centre installation (below) is a sculpture by George Rhoads.
