Jacques Hurtubise was born in Montreal and studied at the ร‰cole des Beaux-Arts de Montreal. He spent time in New York in the 60s, influenced there by the abstract expressionist movement. Later, he produced works with geometric patterns and repeated motifs combined with controlled splashes of paint.

โ€ I do not believe I belong to any school even if my painting is geometric. First I construct my paintings and then I unleash instinct. However, what I do is cerebral.โ€ ~ Jacques Hurtubise

Jacques Hurtubise (1939-2014) had his first one-man show in 1961 at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts at the age of 21. He has then shown at almost every major public and private gallery in Quebec, and exhibited in New York and California.
