Created at the former Downsview Airport (YZD) in north Toronto, this interactive sculpture installation transforms the runway into a canvas of painted rivers.

The artist behind the project is Toronto multidisciplinary sculptor and educator John Notten (website here). Inspired by the ancient waterways that once shaped the city, the immersive experience blends history, geography, and art, to encourage people to explore Toronto’s lost rivers in a unique way.

This longer video production has a more in-depth explanation of the project and John Notten’s artworks.
The project runs Saturdays to October, 2025, free but ticketed: contact here.

This is absolutely glorious! Have you gone & played with it? I hope you do
Plan to, in September. Yes, it’s fabulous, I agree. I have always loved John Notten’s public art. Favourite is Plant it Forward on King St. East near Jarvis, a bright splash in old old Toronto. https://www.johnnotten.com/canoe
God willin’ & the crick don’t rise (etc), I’ll be in Toronto mid- Sept. I’m going to bookmark this site and add his works to discoveries I want to make while there. Thanks!
