Since we’re slammed by winter in a country surrounded by rising international tension, it’s time for a bit of fun. These socks from Kingston-area artist Lisa Leskien radiate joy, warmth and patriotism.

Leskien creates stylized, representational paintings and lino & woodcut prints of scenes and objects from her life that use bold mark-making, thick “juicy” paint and a highly exaggerated use of colour, her artist statement says. See more about her here.

Leskian has a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from York University, and a Bachelor of Education Degree from Brock University. She is a certified member of the Ontario College of Teachers. She followed her dream to become a full-time artist in 2024 after a 19-year career as an elementary school teacher.

How fun! I love colorful socks. In fact, I always tell my daughters they can never go wrong in getting me a new pair of fun socks. Adorable illustrations.
Love them. They’re wonderful.
