Over the last year, artist Maggee Day has developed a daily practice of drawing, making quick sketches of what catches her attentionโa pile of toys, objects left on a table after friends have gone home, containers gathered while starting a garden.

Day’s bold, new paintings are at Vancouver’s Equinox Gallery in Passing Notes, running through October 17, 2026.

She brings these observations together on canvas, where forms overlap, interrupt one another, disappear beneath layers of paint, and re-emerge in altered form. The result is a group of paintings that feels restless and full of surprise – gallery
