Artist sketchbooks are forever in use as portable, pressure-free spaces to brainstorm, plan compostions and record research. In this sketchbook, the gifted Indonesian artist Irene Suputra laid down plans for one of her exquisite embroidery works. (Instagram here and here)

Saputra (also known as Nengiren), is an acclaimed textile artist based in South Jakarta. She is famous for her intricate hand-stitched character “Nona Kecil” (meaning “little woman”) and her bold, highly fashionable embroidered outfits. Some of her little women, above.
