Shea Chang’s Bag Heads exhibition at Huntclub studio in Toronto is an investigation into how people present themselves versus who they really are. Her work is an ongoing art project involving public performance and mixed media works on paper.

Chang say that “the use of masks is an essential human act, rooted in the same vein as painting or mark-making. The everyday object of the paper bag becomes a ready-made mask, offering transcendence from customary societal roles.” (Above: Self Portrait)

Shea Chang is a Toronto based artist and designer. Born in Vancouver, she studied fine art at Langara College and completed her undergraduate studies in illustration at Ontario College of Art and Design University. Her editorial illustrations have appeared in numerous publications in North America and her illustrated children’s book Tarentelle was a finalist in the 2011 Governor Generals Awards. She also teaches illustration at OCAD University.
