Billowing in Vancouver

A 745-foot sculpture made soft and billowy by internationally renowned artist Janet Echelman is rising on the Vancouver waterfront in preparation for the 30th annual TED conference in that city this month.

Made to the scale of buildings, Echelman’s massive work spans the rooftop level from the Fairmont Waterfront Hotel to the Vancouver Convention Centre.  More than three times the length of any of her previous sculptures, the work is an engineering feat, Echelman says.  She is one of the TED speakers at the March 17 conference.
