The rich and magical landscape surrounding Kangiqsujuaq, situated in a valley surrounded by majestic mountains, is the source of inspiration for artist Raymond Martin’s latest body of work.
This community is nestled in northern Québec, about 10 km from the Hudson Strait, with a population of 600-700.
The area is abundant with natural beauty, mussels to harvest in the winter, and wildlife including belugas, polar bears, caribou, and gyrfalcons.
Raymond Martin is a child psychologist and self-taught painter. He was born in 1958 at Lac-a-la-Croix, Lac-Saint-Jean, Québec and has called Moncton home for more than 20 years. See more of his work at Gallery 78 here.

This is beautiful, while it is simple, the colors are vibrant and and their is depth and movement in his paintings. I have friends who live in Alberta, they were just telling me that they had gone ice fishing not long ago, so I smiled at the last painting of the family fishing. Wonderful way to start the morning.
