Scott Cumberland: Decorative Abstracts

Tangled, 2018, Acrylic on canvas, 55″ x 67″

Alberta-based Scott Cumberland’s signature motif is ribbons, the decorative pattern he uses to sculpt the surface of his abstracts.

Pool Party, 2018, Acrylic on canvas, 48″ x 60″

Cumberland starts by pouring acrylic paint onto the canvas. Then, using a variety of handmade squeegees and tools, he “draws through the paint” creating undulating jujube-coloured waves and sensual curves –  review in the Edmonton Journal.

Burst, 2018, Acrylic on canvas, 48″ x 90″
