A cartoon cover of The New Yorker featuring a figure slipping down a ramp covered in money from an airplane labeled 'United States'. The scene shows a humorous depiction of wealth spilling out.

This is the image that Pulitzer prize winning Canadian illustrator Barry Blitt drew for The New Yorker “Soft Landing” cover, May 26, 2025. Blitt chose this image to depict Presidentย Donald J. Trumpโ€™s enthusiasm for ways he and his family can profit from his position as a head of state. Trump’s recentย eager acceptanceย of a โ€œfree, very expensive airplaneโ€ from Qatarโ€”a country not usually considered an ally of the United Statesโ€”has caused consternation on both sides of the aisle, the New Yorker says.

Note: The New York based artist is nominated for a magazine award in Canada for the Justin Trudeau cover he illustrated for The Walrus in 2024.
