Artist Willie Cole is one of the most creative contemporary sculptors around (see his chess board later in this post). This series of guitar based works is a perfect example. (above: Dial a Tune)

For his solo showย No Strings, he used guitars from Yamahaโ€™s recycling program to create anthropomorphic creatures and abstracted figures from their parts.

The pieces are expressive and tied to the endurance of Americaโ€™s past, particularly drawing a connection between the guitarโ€™s shape and the yokes forced on people who were enslaved – Willie Cole
