
Artist Willie Cole is one of the most creative contemporary sculptors around (see his chess board later in this post). This series of guitar based works is a perfect example. (above: Dial a Tune)
For his solo showย No Strings, he used guitars from Yamahaโs recycling program to create anthropomorphic creatures and abstracted figures from their parts.


The pieces are expressive and tied to the endurance of Americaโs past, particularly drawing a connection between the guitarโs shape and the yokes forced on people who were enslaved – Willie Cole

Glad that the guitars come from Yamaha’s recycling program. As a player I hate to think of a playable guitar being cut up that way.
