Growing up in British Columbia, Emmette Lewis took inspiration from B.Cโ€™s diverse environmental ecology and harmonized that with traditional stylistic practices of South African art.

Born in South Africa, she is an oil and mixed media artist currently completing her MFA at OCAD University in their Interdisciplinary Arts, Media and Design Program.

Through her engagement with Torontoโ€™s vibrant arts scene and its underground subcultures, her practice has evolved from expressionist portraiture to contemporary works exploring diasporic narratives of identity, immigration and displacement – notes from one of her exhibitions.
