California artist Souther Salazar’s densely layered universes are on exhibit at Narwhal Projects in a show called You and Me (and the Mouse in the Moon), his first solo exhibition at the Toronto gallery.
Salazar works in painting, drawing, sculpture and animation in a style that encourages dreaming. Many of the works in this post were produced for Scope Basel, from the artist’s website or his Facebook.

So positive and full of childishly naive energy, which fills my heart with a rainbow-like happiness!

Doesn’t the mouse in the circle of the moon just beg for a story?

I so agree with the childlike. The top image reminds me of a Peter Pan style illustration.

I love this! I’m trying to figure out why. I guess because it evokes feelings of whimsy and it is interesting. It makes me want to just look at the piece and study it because it looks fun, not because I have to dissect anything about it. My favorite is the first one. 🙂

I know what you mean. I think it’s because these are simply wonderful invitations to look. And I like the first one best, too.
