There’s major controversy over a now deleted TikTok posted by the British Museum: Was it sexist? Or was it just a bit of fun?

The museum posted a TikTok with the following advice:
โGirlies if youโre single and looking for a man, this is your sign to go to the British Museumโs new exhibitionย Life in the Roman Armyย and walk around looking confused youโre welcome x.โ
ย People were not happy about it , claiming the TikTok was sexist, that it was an example of “mansplaining” and that at the very least, it was totally misguided marketing. More comments here.

The Tik Tok video has now been removed from the British Museum’s account, but you can view it by going to this page and scrolling down to the saved video.

Massively insulting and idiotic. I’d boycott the place and get a lot of women together to o the same.
Astoundingly tone-deaf. And not even witty.
Well, itโs not a professional message, ie use of โGirlies,โ and โwalking around looking confused. Youโre welcome.โ Seems like an outsider posted on their account. Certainly not what I would consider a professional British message – LOL! Good way to get peopleโs attention. Just the word, โGirliesโ is old fashioned. Thanks for giving me something to chuckle about.
