Figurative painter Mel Gausden’s preparatory sketches are a delight.

These small sketches (about 8 ” x 8″) are in essence a draft of the final canvas.

It means the artist can take chances, experimenting with colour, shape, and form – ultimately shaping the resulting canvas, says Bau-Xi gallery, which represents her. “Gausden views these as finished pieces in their own right, which allow the viewer to learn more about her practice.”

Absolutely love these sketches and the coloring is wonderful.
Lovely.
Beautiful colour combos. I often love to see initial sketches too. Thereโs something very lively about them.
First sketches bounce with energy, with discovery — you can’t help but share their delight!
Great word, bounce, which so fits. I like this artist’s interpretations and colours and paint strokes.
