Figurative painter Mel Gausden’s preparatory sketches are a delight.

These small sketches (about 8 ” x 8″) are in essence a draft of the final canvas.

It means the artist can take chances, experimenting with colour, shape, and form – ultimately shaping the resulting canvas, says Bau-Xi gallery, which represents her. “Gausden views these as finished pieces in their own right, which allow the viewer to learn more about her practice.”
