Photographer George Byrne is an internationally recognized artist who creates large-scale photos that depict architectural surfaces and landscapes as painterly abstractions.ย

His Synthetica series of reimagined analog-plus-digital works is on exhibit at Bau-Xi Vancouver through Nov. 26, 2025. (See also a 2019 Art Junkie feature on Byrne, here.)

Each image in theย Syntheticaย series started as a medium format film photograph, then, through a process of addition, subtraction, collage and endless reevaluation, a new completed image is born – George Byrneย

Known for his work that sits at the intersection of realism and abstraction, George Byrne is a multi-faceted artist with a lifelong connection to creating. From a suburban Australian upbringing to years spent on the road as a musician, to now, living in LA as a full-time artist, Byrne has developed a distinct style that draws on the rich tapestry of his life, infusing urban photography with constructed abstraction – from Denizen magazine.

Those are cool artworks, although when I see “Synthetica” my mind immediately goes to the Metric album of the same name, which now I will have to listen to … ๐
I so understand that need to listen to Metric. Great comment, thank you.
Love his work.
