Tattoo art: The Mui Collection
The Mui Collection is thought to be the largest collection of original tattoo art by the world’s most accomplished tattoo artists. It’s up for auction at Guernsey’s in New York this week. (Above: Mixed media on paper, board mounted, 26X17 by American icon Bob Roberts, who started out as a Surrealist painter)

For over 15 years, designer and musician Peter Mui sought out top tattoo masters of every style. More than 1,000 original works on canvas, board and paper are on offer by such noteworthy artists as Japan’s Horiyoshi III, Horitomo, and Horitoyo; Swiss artist Filip Leu; Spain’s tattoo realist Robert Hernandez; Biomechanical tattoo pioneers Guy Aitchison and Aaron Cain; and tribal tattoo artist Roger Ingerton.

See the complete auction catalog here for outstanding descriptions of each artist or click on any image. Most works are torso-size original paintings but smaller “Flash Art” images are also included.

Luv it all! I haven’t even 1 tat, but it is a captivating art form. Much Street Art resembles tattoos and vice versa!
