Werner Arnold: Carved & Polished

I fell for Werner Arnold’s work on the Gallery 78 website. Fanciful and distracting, these sculptures of puzzle-like wood pieces are brilliantly constructed. The works are intricately carved, polished, appliquéd and washed with vibrant colour. (Above: Time Lapse, 36 x 72 x 12)

Day and Night:  pine and acrylic free-standing sculpture / 16 in. tall x 6 in. wide x 6 in. deep

Left: Papillon Jaune-Bleu (25 x 27 x 12) / Right:  Blue Elegance (22 x 28 x 13)

Balancing Act: (Detail) – pine and acrylic free-standing sculpture / 48 in. tall x 16 in. wide x 22 in. deep

In Flight: red pine painted with acrylic, 26″ X 31″ X 6″

Swiss-born Werner Arnold immigrated to Canada at 22. In 1994 he moved to the East Coast, eventually settling in Fredericton, N.B. in 2002. An accomplished wood sculptor, he has exhibited in Canada, the United States, Mexico and Switzerland over the past 40 years.  View more of his work on the Gallery 78 website, here.

I love it! I like how the first one comes apart, signifying the changes during the day/night cycle. Do you know if more of them come apart or do they just look like they do?

Thank you! We love this artist. Often the pieces have moving parts so they are also inter-active. Can’t say enough about my personal interest – I love the piece I have at home! 🙂
