Mixed Media

Nostalgia with wax and a camera

Artist Melissa Espina and photographer Pietro Gallo fuse the artistry of encaustic painting with the crisp images of contemporary digital photography. (Above: Streetcar)

The pair combine the sculptural wax of encaustic, the removal and reapplication of paint, and bold colour, in works produced on panels. (Above: CNE Exhibition / Below: Blue Door)

The Toronto-based duo (known as PH1) create this urban themed artwork as a way to connect with nostalgia and memory.
