Textile artist Susan Avishai creates sculpture from deconstructed, discarded clothing. Her work focuses awareness on the exploitative nature of garment manufacture and the enormous problem of textile waste.
Avishai is on exhibition in Among the Garbage and the Flowers at the Mary E. Black gallery in Halifax, N.S. through March 3. The works prompt viewers “to reuse before discarding and to think more consciously about the longevity of what we purchase or make to clothe ourselves.”

I love this kind of thing. I’m in a textile repurposing craft group on Facebook and I love seeing what people do with scraps, leftovers, castoffs, old clothing, etc.
