Saskatchewan artist Maia Stark draws on personal memories as well as her Icelandic, Irish, and Scottish heritage to form imagery in her paintings, drawings, and ceramic work.

She focuses on “the Grotesque and the Uncanny, specifically as those concepts are described in folk tales and fairy tales.” Horror Vacui is the name of her most recent exhibition, on now with artist Elke (Jess) Richter, at Slate Gallery in Regina.

Stark’s paintings, drawings and ceramic works often portray a duplicated figure, a sort of self portrait, pulling from her experience as an identical twin to contextualize narrative and myth.

We like the symbolism of her art. It’s well done.

very moving with their storytelling and exquisitely well done.
Moving, absolutely right. Very astute observation (with which I agree!) Thank you for that.
