Toronto artist Jennifer Murphy works in collage, assemblage, and sculpture using upcycled and reclaimed materials. These works are from her exhibition, Grains of Sand, at Clint Roenisch Gallery.

“For the exhibition,” Murphy says, “I have paired collage made from photographic images found in used books with elementsย from nature to reflect on our current world fullย of converging emergencies, including the rise of fascism, disinformation, war and forced displacement, grave inequality, resource depletion, and the climate disaster . . .”

Murphy’s works for this exhibition include “images of hands and humanย connection to convey the tenderness and wonder that can be found in all of life’s interdependencies.”

The exhibition title is from this famous poem:
To see a World in Grain of Sand
And Heaven in a Wild Flower,
Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand
And Eternity in an hour
– By William Blake, Auguries of Innocence

The intallation view at the top of the post is of the exhibition at Clint Roenisch, on through Jan. 31, 2026.
