New Hampshire based artist Michael Stasiuk scavenges flea markets for the wood and metal he turns into toy-like figurative objects of human and animal forms. Antiques, old toys, kitchen utensils, combs, steel rods and other cast-offs pile up in his Portsmouth studio until one of his imaginative, amusing sculptures takes shape. These images are from a recent exhibition at the George Marshall Store Gallery in Maine and he also exhibits at the Clark Gallery in Massachusetts. (Click on an image for title and other detail)
Michael Stasiuk earned his BFA from University of Michigan School of Art, and studied ceramics and found object sculpture at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts. He has exhibited widely in galleries and museums throughout the Northeast, including the DeCordova Museum, Currier Gallery of Art in Manchester, New Hampshire, and Noyes Museum in Oceanville, New Jersey.

beautiful. i love the last but one-th one for some reason – the idea of portraits coming out of frames and communicating with other art pieces in a gallery – like a fairy tale.
