Bau-Xi Gallery is welcoming internationally acclaimed photographer Kim Keever to its Toronto roster with an exhibition June 1-15. The New York based artist is known for his colourful, large-scale abstractions, which he creates by pouring paint into a 200-gallon tank of water in his studio.

Keever uses his large-format digital camera to capture the resulting clouds of colour as they swirl into different forms and diffuse through the water.

After earning an engineering degree from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA, Keever worked briefly as a thermal engineer for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

Keever switched careers to become a full-time artist in the mid 1970s, but his previous vocation continues to inform his work, lending a scientific methodology and investigative process to his artistic practice.
