Artist Ann Wood is inspired by botanical prints for her sculpted paper creations, fashioned with sharp embroidery scissors, then sewn onto wool and velvet backgrounds the way specimens are mounted. She also paints and works in wood and textiles. See her website here.

These are incredible, and so beautiful! I agree, I’d much rather have paper butterflies in display than real one, my grandfather used to have tons of them and I’ve always found them kind of creepy. These are gorgeous and will stay that way for years more than the real ones.
There’s a whole room full of specimens at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto that make my skin crawl, and yet I find them fascinating. You’re right. These are so beautifully appropriate. Thanks for the comment.
